The HD-Video POD offers an affordable, yet powerful alternative for digital signage users who currently drive individual signs with low-function DVD players.
LENEXA, Kan. (July 8) --Keywest Technology today unveiled the HD-Video POD , a high-definition digital signage content player offering a cost-effective professional alternative to the DVD players frequently used in single-sign systems.
Keywest Technology specifically designed the HD-Video POD as an affordable, yet powerful replacement for the DVD players in use today driving tens of thousands of digital signs.
“As high definition television displays begin to dominate the digital signage market, those responsible for the signs face an interesting question,” said Keywest Technology president Nick Nichols. “Specifically, do they invest in the next generation of high-definition DVD player, which can cost several hundred dollars and is not purpose-built for digital signage content playback, or do they look for a more professional alternative?
“We believe the HD-Video POD offers the HD display support they need with the digital signage schedule building and management support they can’t find in a DVD player at a remarkably affordable price,” he said.
The HD-Video POD player is a complete hardware and software solution to drive an individual digital signage. With WiFi and Ethernet support, multiple units can be controlled and updated from a central Keywest Technology InfoZone network.
Packaged in a fanless “mini” chassis, the Linux-based unit comes with DVI, HD component, S-video and VGA output. The HD-Video POD player is available with USB memory support as well as with an optional 40GB hard drive for applications requiring greater media storage.
Additionally, the HD-Video POD comes with easy-to-use control software that runs on any Windows platform. The software is timeline based, allowing users to drag and drop video and graphics onto a timeline to sequence playback of media and build schedules. Existing playlists can be modified as they run.
The HD-Video POD with USB memory support-only has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $795. The HD-Video POD with optional 40GB hard drive has a list price of $895. Units are available for immediate shipment.

LENEXA, Kan. (June 25)—Keywest Technology, a full-service leader offering digital signage media servers, players, software and services, has completed an extensive, turnkey digital signage installation at the Garland (Texas) Special Events Center.
The $31.5 million multi-purpose complex, which is owned by the Garland Independent School District, is home to a 7,500-seat arena used for concerts and sporting events, as well as a multi-tiered lecture hall, conference center and ballroom.
Keywest Technology provided an extensive array of digital signage equipment and services, including MediaXtreme Signage media servers, Media POD players, LCD flat panel displays and custom digital signage content from the company’s DSX Media division.
“The Garland Special Events Center is an outstanding example of the scope of Keywest Technology’s digital signage core competencies,” said company president Nick Nichols. “In Garland, we delivered a truly turnkey digital signage system that required our systems engineers, software team, talented installers and digital signage content designers to collaborate to deliver the exact system that meets the needs of the Garland Independent School District.”
Completing the project required Keywest Technology to provide a full range of services, including initial and final design, full installation, training, digital signage
content development and continuing post-install service and support. The project also called for Keywest Technology to integrate the system with several third-party products, including a 96-square-foot LED arena display and Ungerboeck event business management software, to deliver a unified solution for the school district.
The lineup of Keywest Technology hardware, software and services included seven MediaXtreme MXS-MZ event players; a dozen Media POD players; 16 17-inch LG Electronics LCD flat panel displays; six four-inch LG Electronics LCD displays; 16 32-inch displays; three large static backlit signs, designed and printed by the Keywest DSX Media division; 26,000 feet of Cat-5 cable; and a Keywest Technology custom-built color skew adjustment box.
“The Garland project is a classic example of Keywest Technology’s ability to deliver a turnkey digital signage network that meets the unique needs of an individual customer and to do so on time and on budget,” said Nichols.

PRESS RELEASE
Keywest Technology retires Big VooDoo line of television products
The company will focus its efforts on serving the manifold needs of the evolving digital signage market.
Keywest Technology will continue to develop its comprehensive MediaXtreme Digital Signage and MediaXtreme Broadcast product lines as well as the LogoSTAR line of logo and text inserters.
Keywest Technology announced this week that it is discontinuing its Big VooDoo line of television products, which includes time base correctors/frame synchronizers, picture-in-picture devices, STAR-8 crawl and text inserter as well as the Keywest Technology 440 Quad Channel picture-in-picture inserter.
Retiring the product line tracks the evolution of the broadcast market as it transitions from analog to digital and will let Keywest Technology focus its resources on the growing, ever-changing requirements of the digital signage market.
"Now is the right time to retire the Big VooDoo product lineup," said company president Nick Nichols. "With the ongoing explosive growth in the digital signage market, discontinuing our legacy analog Big VooDoo products will permit us to devote our internal resources to meeting the demanding requirements of digital signage."
Keywest Technology will continue to sell Big VooDoo, STAR-8 and the 440 Quad Channel PiP until its inventory of the items is exhausted. The company also will continue to honor its warranty on Big VooDoo, STAR-8 and Keywest Technology 440.
"We built a tradition of superior performance, ease of use and customer satisfaction with our Big VooDoo, STAR-8 and 440," said Nichols. "We have carried those qualities over to our digital signage products, which our digital signage customers appreciate and have come to expect."
Keywest Technology will remove discontinued items from its Web site as inventories of those items are depleted.
As always, if we can be of any assistance with a video or digital signage need, simply email us or click on the Ask an Expert button to the right or call 800-331-2019. We'll be happy to help.
